Some Manitoba Wedding Facts…

The perfect day…

Having the perfect wedding is much like putting together the ultimate theatrical production. There are details, details, details to no end. There are numerous people involved, who play numerous supporting roles to the starring couple. A magnificent stage production, scenic backdrops, and a stunning wardrobe ensemble are necessities.

The theatrics of the production will run the entire gammit of emotions over the course of the day.  There is want and frustration, nervousness and anticipation, laughter and tears, embracing and letting go. There is feasting and storytelling, kissing and kidding around. There is music, drink, dance, and celebration. And for the starring couple, the day's production ends in a night of romance and passion by the warm glow of a fire.

But getting started with a day as perfect as this seems so far out of reach for so many people. Weddings are traditionally thought of as expensive - and a dream wedding too often seems as just that… a dream.

But the truth is this. Many couples have their dream wedding without breaking the bank. Maybe this has been a secret… maybe not… but the fact of the matter is that many people in the Beautiful Plains region of Manitoba have their Dream Wedding and can then afford to get a really good start in their new life together. The fact of the matter is that Dream Weddings are had every year for LESS THAN $10,000 in the Neepawa area .

How is this possible?

It's all a matter of perspective - To illustrate here's a little story:

The City Mouse and the Country Mouse…

One fine day, a city mouse drove out to the country to visit a friend they had met at summer camp. After a long conversation the city mouse told the country mouse that their daughter had just got married, and that it had cost $4,500 to rent the hall for the banquet. The country mouse asked why it cost so much. The city mouse said that the hall was a big building - and that's why.

The country mouse said that they had big dance halls in the country too, but they didn't cost that much to rent.

The city mouse then said that the city hall had a great hardwood floor for dancing on, and that's why it cost so much.

The country mouse said that their halls also had great hardwood floors for dancing on too, but still couldn't understand why the city mouse paid so much.

The city mouse said that their hall had a big kitchen for preparing the meals, and a bar for serving the drinks, and that's why it cost so much.

The country mouse said that they also had kitchens and bars in their halls, but still couldn't understand why a banquet hall cost so much in the city.

So finally the city mouse said that the hall they rented was air conditioned, and that's why it cost so much.

Country mouse said that they had air conditioned halls in their area too, but they didn't cost $4,500 to rent.

The city mouse was getting frustrated, and finally asked the country mouse how much it cost to rent a hall in the country.

The country mouse said "Most of the halls in this area cost under $250.00 for the day, and our biggest, fanciest hall costs a little more than double that - but it can hold up to 750 people."

The city mouse looked at the country mouse in disbelief.

The country mouse laughed and said "I'll bet you paid too much for your catering too!"

The REALITY of the matter…

Most of the banquet halls in the Neepawa area are un-utilized or under-utilized, because NOT VERY MANY PEOPLE KNOW ABOUT THEM. Costs are low because that's how it's always been. These facilities are important hubs of social activity to the communities they serve. They are not run for huge profits, they are simply operated so people have a place in which they can share the really meaningful times in life with their friends, families, and neighbours… and that's the truth.
